You need both
When it comes to choosing a mattress, there are a fantastic number of choices on the market today. Many of those choices are foam only… but is foam enough? We believe every good bed should start with a quality pocket-spring system and here’s why:
So Many Choices: There are a ton of online bed retailers out there competing for your hard-earned cash… Koala, Ecosa and Napp (just to name but a few!) so it’s hard to know which one is right for you. That’s why we encourage you to check them all out – The only thing we suggest, is start by asking yourself this simple question: Do I want an innerspring mattress, or do I want foam?
One Style Suits All?: Some online retailers make bold claims about their one-type-suits-all foam mattress-in-a-box made from special "space-age" technology. But can one super foam mattress really provide the right support and comfort for everyone - for all ages, sizes and preferences? We don’t think so. We are all different and we have different needs and ideas about comfort - That’s why we offer a range of mattresses.
The Wine Glass Test: Some foam mattress retailers would have us believe that if you can jump on a bed and not spill your wine then it must be good to sleep on. This is a clever marketing trick used to illustrate a lack of partner disturbance. With a Pocket Spring mattress, it is achieved because each spring supports only the weight directly above it and is independent to every other spring in the mattress. With a foam mattress, it is achieved by using high density support foam… or in other words - very hard foam.
Postural alignment: Because Pocket Springs are more responsive than foam they allow weight to be distributed more evenly across the sleeping surface providing better postural alignment. They can also be zoned (a process where the firmness of the spring can be varied down the length of the bed) giving even better support. Foam core mattresses are not zoned - Their construction only allows slabs of foam to be stacked vertically.
Edge Support: With a Pocket Spring mattress you can sleep right out to the edge of the bed without feeling like you are going to fall out. The outer rows of springs provide edge support increasing the usable surface area of your bed. Foam Core mattresses cannot provide this level of support – Imagine buying a King size bed but only being able to use the area of a Queen.
Breathability: An inner sprung mattress can ‘breathe’ in a way that Foam Core mattresses cannot. The air space inside the mattress works like a bellows when you move gently forcing air through the mattress. This ensures the mattress remains dry and healthy and reduces the temperature build up common in Foam Core mattresses.
